Granite V/s Quartz

To help zero down the granite or quartz, we will try to explain with five points to help show the key differences between the granite & quartz. Let us know better what is granite & quartz?

Granite is a very hard stone and is natural. It’s mined from quarries all around the world, cut down in a blocks of a manageable size, and then polished by fully automatic or manual polishing machine to a fine finish.

Where Quartz is different, it is not 100 % natural. Instead, it is manufactured using 85 to 95 % natural quartz and 5 to 15 % of polymer resins which is used for binding the natural quartz.

We believe now you know the basic differences, let's see and compare.

1: Manufacturing

Granite is mined across the world. The mined granite is majorly in block rectangular shape. It is then sliced into slabs or tiles and polished or finished for installation

Quartz counters are made from crushed quartz. And pigments might get added for coloration and resin is being used to bind it together as we explained earlier.

2: Appearance

Granite comes in many different colors and patterns due to the way it’s formed. It depends on from where the stone is mined. Granite color can range from earthly stone to vivid colors like blue, green and red.

One of the main reasons quartz has exploded in popularity is due to appearance. Quartz has the look of stone while also allowing homeowners to customize the design. Quartz can come in innumerable colors and patterns.

3: Durability

Granite can be porous can suck up liquids and harbor infectious bacteria and viruses. Granite is found across the world and each one is different and every granite has its own flaws. Some granite may chip-off from corners and develop crack. Granite which is sealed using resin based sealant is more damage resistant then the unsealed surface.

Quartz manufactured with strict guidelines and quality factory like sonnet stone mostly has no striations that can lead to cracks. The resin used to bind the quartz makes it non porous and more resistant to the stains. Some manufacturers like sonnet stone treat their counter tops with antibacterial coating that make them more hygienic.

4: Maintenance

Granite countertop may require resealing additional to the sealing at the time of installation. If you want your countertop to really last for ages then you need to be quick to mop up stains.

On other end Quartz countertops already comes pre-sealed, so it doesn't require resealing at all. You can wash it off with mild cleanser.

5: Heat Effect

Granite mostly doesn't get damaged by heat, so use heating pads at all times is not necessary.

Quartz can be damaged by excessive heat, so use heating pads at all times.

Sonnet stone is the one of the largest manufacturer and supplier of granite, manufacturer and supplier of quartz slabs and quartz countertops.
